Sewing? IN THIS ECONOMY!? (actually, yes, in this economy)

I want to wear not-ugly clothes and I'm also tired of buying clothes that are kind of okay but fit awkwardly in places. So I went and got myself a Janome 423s!

I thought I was responding to a unique interest but it turns out, according to the NYT: I'm just another grandma hobbyist.

If you look online, you'll see that sewing is something that could take over your life. People have entire SEWING ROOMS(!!) in their homes because you need a table for the machine, storage for all the fabric, etc etc. I guess I'll have to see how much I want to commit. (The Janome 423s cost me 3,900,000 rupiah on Shopee Indonesia!! So I had better!!!!!)

Interestingly, while on the topic of money: 3,900,000 IDR is currently 162 GBP. In various UK online stores (I can only find UK stores selling this model), it consistently costs 379 GBP. I suppose the lesson here is: if you go on holiday to Indonesia and have space in your luggage...

And while doing this price research, I discovered that my sewing machine has now dropped to 3,500,000 IDR. Ugh! I could have waited a week to save 400,000 rupiah! That's a lot of nasi goreng!!!!
